Rick Springfield on Creating 'Working Class Dog' 40 Years Ago: 'It Was a Lot of Lust'
February 24 2021 ,

Four decades after the release of the album that spawned "Jessie's Girl" and "I've Done Everything For You," Springfield looks back on recording in the middle of the night -- after Tom Petty had left -- and how sudden stardom messed with his head.

Forty years ago today (Feb. 24), RCA Records released Rick Springfield's now-classic LP Working Class Dog. The album, which perfectly blended pop, rock and a smidge of new wave, featured such enduring hits as “Jessie’s Girl” and “I’ve Done Everything For You." It also made a rock star out of Springfield, who tells Billboard that when he looks back at making the project, “It’s all good feelings. I had great times recording it.”
